‘Mathias’s work is innovative, original and technologically advanced. The Slice chair is just stunning.’
Janice Blackburn, Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts, Sotheby’s.

As its name suggests, this chair’s streamlined components were rotated 90 degrees to take the original Slice chair design in a whole new direction. Aptly named the Slice vertical chair, its wavy bends and organic folds are created from individual layers of reinforced cardboard joined along a horizontal axis. The chair’s sculptural overtones soothe the rupture between art and design, leaving the viewer to decide if it should assume a functional role or be appreciated in an artistic guise.

Slice Chair Vertical was acquired by the Montreal Museum of Art, Canada.
